In January 2016, we were church number 1,339 to become an Open and Affirming (ONA) Congregation of the United Church of Christ (UCC). ONA is the UCC's designation for congregations, campus ministries, and other bodies in the UCC which make a public covenant of welcome into their full life and ministry to persons of all sexual orientations, gender identities and gender expressions.
St. John's is a welcoming church for members of the LGBT community, their family, friends and others who support them. We encourage full participation in the life of the church by all our members, including serving in leadership and ordination within the denomination.
Our minister can also perform weddings for all couples—same-sex, interracial, divorced, transgender, etc., in accordance with the laws of the state of Illinois.
